Stub placement

[edit]

Hello. If you don't mind the suggestion, please read Wikipedia:Stub, since you appear to not have completely grasped the stub concept yet. That's completely acceptable, but please read the first half of that article. Cheers. --Sn0wflake 23:40, 5 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Re:Apartheid wall

When you noticed a page that is a copyright violation (like Brianellner), please use the correct procedure instead of just blanking the page. Thanks! .:.Jareth.:. babelfish July 5, 2005 02:49 (UTC)

I completed understand that the page was going to be deleted, either as copyvio or as a vfd since it was a duplicate of the correct page, but blanking a page tends to look like vandalism -- that's why we have the templates like {{copyvio}}. Just makes things a little easier on people watching for vandals and trolls. .:.Jareth.:. babelfish July 5, 2005 23:09 (UTC)
Ok, thanks for correcting me ! --Revas 6 July 2005 00:35 (UTC)

new hampshire

[edit]

That may be true that nh is more libertarian, although I believe it is a bit of a facile explanation, and you would need to include a more nuanced and diverse explanation of why new hampshire went dem. Why did they vote for Mccain in 2000? Why did Buchanan win in 1992? Often they also seem rather protectionist. I think many people attribute it to Kerry being from New England (although he is not necessarily very popular and nh receives anti-Kerry Boston talk radio). I think the best explanation is probably that new hampshire is more isolationist than the average state, and generally opposed the iraq war. However, 'this can be explained by' is too definitive language Tfine80 5 July 2005 15:19 (UTC)

You're right. I'll keep your edits. But as I read your text, I see an other explanation for Bush's defeat in NH : If McCain won in 2000, Buchanan in 1992 (I presume you speak about the Republican primaries), isn't it because the state Repulican voters have something against the Bush family ? Of course, it is not encyclopedial, but maybe we could write something like : Never a Bush family member did well in this state --Revas 5 July 2005 15:25 (UTC)
That's a good point. Although Bush did beat Gore there, of course. I think people of New Hampshire generally dislike elitists of all stripes. I even think that there was more natural distrust for Kerry, but I think the war was rather unpopular there, and the mere fact of the Democratic primary gave the Democrat talking points a lot of play. Btw, I was actually in nh for the 2004 primary, just for kicks. (I rode up on a bus from my former college in Boston) Tfine80 8 July 2005 02:16 (UTC)
just for kicks=? I'm sorry, I'm not a native english-speaker ;-)--Revas 8 July 2005 02:20 (UTC)

Source?

[edit]

Where is your source for the 40 deaths please. — Trilobite (Talk) 7 July 2005 23:21 (UTC)

It was in the article, but somebody erased [1] it.--Revas 7 July 2005 23:26 (UTC)
Yes, because it was an unsourced statement. It's no good using the article as a source for itself. The news sources appear to be saying 38 at the moment so until that changes let's not jump the gun. — Trilobite (Talk) 7 July 2005 23:36 (UTC)
You're right, I did a research on google and did not find the source (Emergency Services press conference). --Revas 7 July 2005 23:42 (UTC)

You win.

Alright. For unilaterally removing my dispute tags without discussion and thus contributing to a stifling of discussion instead of consensus decision, you have pissed me off royally, you motherfucker. And now I'm leaving. Fuck you and fuck your precious Wikipedia, asshole. Where consensus consists of shouting down your opponents. — Phil Welch 8 July 2005 02:22 (UTC)

There is a famous French theatre reply (in Cyrano, as you know): Enchanté, et moi, Cyrano, Hercule, Savigien de Bergerac. It was my favourite one in school. Best regards, --Revas 8 July 2005 02:27 (UTC)
I apologize, I should have not lashed out at you, although it was highly inappropriate of you to remove the dispute tag without discussion. — Phil Welch 8 July 2005 02:37 (UTC)

I didn't react well and I'm sorry. I hope you accept my apology, since I'm coming back. I really, really got too worked up. I still don't think I was treated fairly but I'm going to assume good faith and move on. — Phil Welch 8 July 2005 04:44 (UTC)

Well, that's past, I think we can move on and work with other wikipedians on other articles. Don't take talk page discutions to much personaly ;-) --Revas 8 July 2005 11:44 (UTC)

FIS' manifesto contained no promise to "abolish democracy"; rather, concerns were expressed that this might be part of their plan, because one of their two main leaders opposed democracy while the other expressed support for it. Read Islamic Salvation Front and Algerian Civil War for fuller background. (Or, if I'm wrong, provide a source for your claim.) - Mustafaa 8 July 2005 18:27 (UTC)

Hi, and than you very muchfor translating the article! I wrote that quite some time ago based on lots of online info and a newspaper article. Not sure where i got the 500,000 from, and your comment sounds very valid. Please feel free to change the numbers. Happy editing! -- Chris 73 Talk 12:33, July 17, 2005 (UTC)

Hey, I noticed you're the biggest contributor to that article so I was wondering what you thought of my idea on Talk:U.S. presidential election, 2004, in California? Thanks :) -- Joolz 13:47, 15 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

U.S. presidential election in D.C.

[edit]

Hi Revas. I agree that the pages should stay consistent. In fact, I was going to make the same change to the rest of the articles. I think that it makes it easier to see the winner than the (W)—do you agree? —Charles O'Rourke 22:31, August 23, 2005 (UTC)

To be honest, the only reason that justify the '(W) in order to indicate the winner is that the table I copied in order to create those pages was like it. Feel free to edit, but don't forget to do all the pages. And thanks again for your edits on the D.C. page !--Revas 22:38, 23 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Will do. I've also been removing the extra years from the "See other presidential elections" list. I figure it makes more sense to just show the one before and the one after, and then when you go to those pages, it'll show the one before and after, etc. I think that especially makes sense since most of those pages don't exist yet. —Charles O'Rourke 22:42, August 23, 2005 (UTC)
I reverted this deletion because I think it's a good idea to create a red link in order to give the idea to someone else (or me, if I become less lazy) to create a stub (it's quite easy, from datas of this site.--Revas 22:45, 23 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]
I think it's kind of messy and arbitrary, though. Why not show all elections back to 1789 then? I think it makes more sense to just show the one before and after, and then when you create the New York 1988 article, it has links to 1984 and 1992, etc. Just my opinion. —Charles O'Rourke 22:46, August 23, 2005 (UTC)
Why not back to 1789 ? For a very arbitrary reason : I have no data from that election ;-) . Maybe you're right, but if I choose a random pge, let say YMD, you have link to all the past World Youth Day's, even those who do not exist yet. I don't know who's right, but I think we should keep to the status quo for now, and see it later. It's not the main issue we face on these pages.--Revas 22:50, 23 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]
I think red links only confuse readers who are actually using Wikipedia as an encyclopedia, and we should try to move away from them as much as possible. If we do leave the decision to have more than just the year before and year after, why don't we at least only add them as they're created rather than have 5 elections worth of red links? —Charles O'Rourke 22:57, August 23, 2005 (UTC)
Because Wikipedia is more than an encyclopedia. It's an encyclopedia the average reader can edit. And I'm afraid nobody will ever think about creating these pages (such as Idaho, 1988, a page nobody will care exept trudents and Boise's policital junkies) if they don't click on a red link. I think you already did that, no--Revas 23:01, 23 August 2005 (UTC) ?[reply]
But only political junkies like you or me will create these pages even if they are a red link. :P And actually, I found the pages by going to your user page after I noticed you had edited a page I was interested in. I didn't have to click on any red links. (I've just been editing pages you already created.) —Charles O'Rourke 23:05, August 23, 2005 (UTC)
Ok, so let's erase the red links (exept 2008), but I just created the 1996 stub page for NY, and I think we should keep a link toward it in the 2004 page, or nobody will ever discover that it does actually exist.--Revas 23:08, 23 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, but won't they see it if they click on the 2000 link? That one will show links to 1996 and 2004. —Charles O'Rourke 23:11, August 23, 2005 (UTC)
Well...let say that 5 people a mounth will see the 2004 page a mounth, then 1 will think about clicking to 2000, and so on we only have 1 people every 5 mounth watching the results of 1996...That's the reason I favor listing the more links I can : people gotta watch these pages : I spent time on it ! ;-) --Revas 23:14, 23 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

New York City Community Boards

[edit]

I think it might make sense to merge the fine work you've done on all of these into five consolidated articles, one for each borough. The content on individual community boards doesn't really have potential for expansion, as most local details rather belong in the neighborhood articles. What do you think of this idea?--Pharos 04:47, 16 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

That's definitely a good idea. I agree, but as I'm currently (and for the next 9 mounths) working in in a foreign land, and therefore I'm not able to spend a lot of time on wikipedia, so I'd be glad if somebody else could do it.
Moreover, I saw you expanded considerabily the article about NYC mayoral election results. I want you to thank you for this exellent job, and ask where you found those datas. --Revas 18:59, 16 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Hi. There's no need to point the redirects to a specific section of the Brooklyn Community Board article, and it's generally considered poor form to use redirects like this. BTW, the election numbers were from the Encyclopedia of New York City. I'll have to post the rest later.--Pharos 20:59, 22 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Ok. Thanks. BTW, I'm creating a merged Manhattan Community Board article, and d you know if there is a blank map of NYC city state assembly district available ? --Revas 21:01, 22 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading Image:Juergen ruettgers.jpg. I notice the image page currently doesn't specify who created the image, so the copyright status is therefore unclear. If you have not created the image yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the image on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the image yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the image also doesn't have a copyright tag then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture then you can use {{GFDL}} to release it under the GFDL. If you can claim fair use use {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or {{fairuse}}. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other images, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of image pages you have edited by going to "Your contributions" from your user page and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Thanks for uploading Image:State-legislatures.png. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).

The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}.

Please signify the copyright information on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me. Thank you.

Image Tagging

[edit]

Greetings. From the description and use of [[:Image:Vermont-county-2004.PNG], it appears you intended this media to be freely available. I took the liberty of applying a {{GFDL-presumed}} tag. Could you confirm this at by replacing my edit with {{GFDL-self}}? Regards, Dethomas 18:44, 10 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading Image:Illinois-2004-counties.PNG. I notice the 'image' page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use {{GFDL-self}} to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media qualifies as fair use, please read fair use, and then use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other media, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. Algeria

[edit]

Please do not move a large number of articles without discussing it first, some of us may have discussed this in the past. Also, this being the english Wikipedia, we tend to prefer the english term, i.e. "province", when possible. I will likely revert these changes later today but I wanted to open a dialogue first. --Golbez 16:17, 7 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Indeed, i forgot to talk discuss about the change first, sorry. But there is no reason to use the word "province", while Algerians, when speaking in Arabic or French, use the word "wilaya". Moreover, in Maghreb, the English word "province" is not translated by wilaya (to be honest, i forgot the word we translate by "province" in Morocco", but I hope I'll remember it asap). Thus it is a mistake to speak about the province of Algiers whiel referring to the wilaya of Algiers. Indeed, the term 'province of Algiers may also refer to the region that occupied the center of Algeria under the French rule before the creation of the département of Algiers, from wich the current wilaya has been extracted. The English wikipedia, while speaking tof the French départements, who are provinces and similar to Algerian wilayas, use the French term, so why should we do otherwise with Algerian wilayas ? I stop moving the rest of the wilayas article before we can reach a consensus about it, but please do not revert my changes too. Can we discuss of it on the Wilayas of Algeria article ? Thanks. --Revas 01:26, 8 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I have little problem, specifically, with the changing to "wilaya" - however, please don't move them to "Wilaya of whatever". Use "Algiers wilaya", not "Wilaya of Algiers". It's a style and formality thing, we want to use the less formal form. And yes, this should be continued on the talk page. --Golbez 02:05, 8 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Paris, etc

[edit]

Thanks for your Île-de-France talk page addition. I've seen quite a few of your edits through the French Wiki pages, and quite frankly I wasn't certain what side of fact you were on - namely your request to merge "agglomération parisienne" and "aire urbaine" - but I was damn glad to see your post today. Thanks. THEPROMENADER 15:16, 11 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

A word of wisdom?

[edit]

Revas,

Your knowledgable input will be much appreciated in the request to move vote going on at List of tallest structures in Paris.

I suggested this move because the title of this article is inaccurate; most of what this article contains is not "in Paris" but well outside of it. It is important in Wiki, to maintain verifiability, that articles have the administrative name of the area where their content can be found. One will not find towers in Courbevoie under an "in Paris" title in any reference.

I had proposed List of tallest structures in the Paris region, as "Paris region" encompasses everything contained in the article, and has connotations of "in and around Paris" to the layman; it is also the official translation of Île-de-France. Since opening the above there has been a counter-proposal: in an even more strict adherence to Wiki naming conventions, that it be literally named "in Île-de-France". I'm sure there are other suitable titles such as "Paris agglomeration" (though it is non-administrative) - anyhow your input in this as a 'local' (instead of an ignorant foreigner like me : ) would I'm sure be both welcome and respected.

Regards,

[edit]

Hi.

Just leaving a note saying I got bored today so decided to do something useful for once. I ordered the Nevada table by Bush's % and created a county results table for New Mexico and ordered it, also by Bush's %. I used Bush's % for them because he won both states. Hope thats okay.

Unspecified source for Image:Mncb6map.PNG

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Mncb6map.PNG. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self-no-disclaimers}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 21:46, 13 April 2007 (UTC). Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Mncb10map.PNG

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Mncb10map.PNG. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 21:02, 2 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Revas! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot notifying you on behalf of the the unreferenced biographies team that 1 of the articles that you created is currently tagged as an Unreferenced Biography of a Living Person. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to ensure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. If you were to bring this article up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 334 article backlog. Once the article is adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Argonnerwaldlied, you added links pointing to the disambiguation pages German and Military march (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

The file File:SanJuanCapistranoOrangeCountyMap.PNG has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Orphaned map.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated files}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the file's talk page.

Please consider addressing the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated files}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and files for discussion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. ~ Rob13Talk 02:52, 25 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
